Taking the photographs of the bridal details has always been a really fun part of a wedding day for me, so I really enjoyed taking a Bridal Details Course offered by one of my favorite online photography mentors, Katelyn James, last week. I couldn't wait to see how the course could help me improve.

Some examples of the bridal details photographers highlight on a wedding day would be the wedding dress, jewelry, rings, perfume, invitations, shoes, bouquet, the something borrowed, something blue- and the list can go on.

I let my brides know to try and have these things all together for when I arrive at the spot the bride is getting ready the morning of the wedding. This is the first thing I get started on, along with the getting ready photographs of the bride and her bridesmaids.

I was so excited to see what this course could do to improve my detail shots. It also goes over what photographs to pair next to each other, which is something I really enjoy.

Below are the first photos I took to incorporate a little of what I've learned. I used mine and Ryan's work-in-progress Save the Dates for some of these (our wedding website url is edited out for privacy reasons.) This invite design comes with the site I'm using to make our wedding website- and wow am I amazed at all you can do with those sites these days! The organization of online rsvps is especially useful.

I also sponge painted a canvas to use as the background and I'm super happy with how everything turned out. I cannot wait for my April weddings to start using the new tips I've learned on my couples' details! I want to find some neat stamps to incorporate into invitation shots next. For my own wedding, I'd love to find some vintage stamps with things meaningful to us. I'm thinking of one with a blue heron and another with dogwood blooms.

I hope this gets you excited for your own wedding details photographs, or maybe gets you inspired for details shots of a totally different kind.
